Exhibition: Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting

Exhibition: Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting

The Louvre, the world’s greatest museum, presents a new exhibition of paintings.

Presenting the great masterpieces of Johannes Vermeer and those of his contemporaries, this exhibition seeks to show how his creative mastery was linked with the art world of his day. The great Dutch painter was a genius, but one who fitted into the context of his times as he engaged in a dynamic rivalry with other great artists.

Vermeer triggered a new wave of painting that swept across Europe. Come and discover the artists who influenced and were in turn influenced by ‘The Sphinx of Delft’.
